Awhhhhh the 80's

You know you were there at some point in your life! Maybe you had poofy bangs and loved them, maybe you were just in diapers...or both. Whatever the case, I though we all could use a trip down memory lane, via a June 1985 issue of House Beautiful.

They say you can't know where you're going, until you know where you've been :) With that said, how did you feel about decor in the 80's?...what where your likes and dislikes, if any?

It's bath time!!!

Rub a dub...dub!

(Designer Kerry Joyce, featured in Rooms to Inspire book by Annie Kelly)

What is it about white bathtubs that I love so much? Is it that they are just so simple and classic looking...maybe. Is it that they dirty so easy and I love to clean, surely not! What ever the reason I love these tubs...and in my next house (see I'm already thinking about my next house and I haven't even finished the first one...am I the only one that does this?) I will have a white clawfoot tub and that's final!

Hide and Seek

Apparently I'm not any good and this game, cause I've been found...and tagged (Thank you Leah and Katie)! I'm willing to accept my punishment, and reveal a few tid bits about myself to you, so here we go:

1. There is absolutely no consistency in the music I listen to...everything from Billie Holiday to the Clash. You would have a laugh looking at my IPod play lists :)

2. I've been fortunate enough, due to my father line of work, to have lived and traveled all over the world...many places people can't find on the map! My most memorable experience was when we lived in Bandung, Indonesia for 9 months!

(My favorite hotel in Bandung, can't remember name now)

3. My husband used to play in a band years ago, and I had the biggest crush on him as a teenager. So much, that I would lie to my parents to get out of my house and see him play in the city (SF)...he didn't know me of course at the time, but years later we meet and the rest was history....

4. I secretly with I were British...it must be because of the accent, oh and their vocabulary is brilliant! I believe a Brit can say just about anything, like "I just took out the trash and washed the dishes", and it would come across as the most profound statement! *If you interested check out the English to American dictionary here.*

5. I'm trying to cut sugar out of my life (I know I'm crazy)...I just think there's too much sugar in everything these days and that it's probably the right thing to do. BUT, this transition is not easy and sometimes I can be a real "you know what", cause I love ice cream :)

6. I think I know every word and scene in Ferris Bueller's Day Off...it's true! So much that I could probably watch the movie blind-folded, with ear plugs in, and tell you everything that's happening based on instinct!

7. I found an old journal of mine, after I graduated college, from when I was 12-14. And in it, I found pages where I had doodled designs of various furniture pieces and lighting...some even had pages of what my dream bedroom would look like! So, I'm figuring this career path of mine must be destiny :)

8. I don't camp...people ask me all the time and I just can't muster up the courage to do so. I just don't get it...I love nature, but the idea of sleeping with it, just doesn't appeal to me now. My idea of camping, is sleeping on a air mattress in our living room, until this remodel is over!!! AND, that is camping enough for me.

So that's a bit about me :) Have a good weekend!!!

Go Neutral

Head on over to Elle Decor website and you will find a wonderful feature on the home of Judy Naftulin.

A coastal home with a neutral palette, featuring white walls, natural black walnut floors, and furniture that stands out with out being overwhelming. Although I have a thing for adding bright colors against white, there is just really something to be said about going neutral, all the way...

Those hydrangeas are just breathe taking a top the kitchen counter.

What a fantastic island in this kitchen, great inspiration for a DIY project!!!

What happened to the bird?...for more examples of birdcages and their uses, check out Peak of Chic blog.

This bathroom features a large painting of the "Mona Lisa" by John Currie.

A vanity with a modern country feel...I'm in love with those mirrors!

I want this view, and that's all I have to say :)

My favorite little piggy from Jonathan Adler, this is a bank I'll be putting my money in!!!

Velocity Art and Design sells these Harry Allen piggy banks in chrome, gold, white and pink.

This lil chrome piggy bank is from Target and only costs $13...if you can believe that!

Found this bronze pig at Mecox Gardens...they have quite a selection to choose from.

A vintage find from Regeneration on 1st Dibs...this here piggy is real leather and was orginally made for Abercrombie and Fitch.

You can't put your money in it, but it sure is cute, available at Wisteria, costs $39.

Paint the town orange...

or maybe just a room for that matter!!! A color that I don't often think about in the way of paint and wallcovering, but orange has it going on,as you will see below. Inspired by Courtney's post yesterday at Style Court...had me thinking about Hermes boxes, and I've been seeing shades of orange ever since.

So tell me what your thoughts are on the color, not as an accent but as a bold jester in a room, cause I'm curious...

One of my favorite Miles Redd projects, home of writer Shyama Patel, featured in Elle Decor, November 2006.

This bright dining room was designed by Alexandra and Eliot Angle of Aqua Vitae Design, featured in Metropolitan Home Dec/Jan. 2007.

Orange and blue looking good together, this is the home of Kate Walsh featured in O at Home, Spring 2007.

By adding brown against the orange, this space has become more subtle, designed by Andrew Virtue, featured in Rooms to Inspire by Annie Kelly.

A golden touch, owner Christopher Spitzmiller enlisted the help of Todd Romano and Albert Hadley with decorating his home, featured in Elle Decor, December 2006.

Combine black and white with orange to make a lovely space, featured in House Beautiful, February 2006, designer unknown, photographed by Paul Whicheloe.

Beach House Glamour

"When you have a place at the beach," says Kenneth Brown, "you suddenly have more friends than you ever realized." This is surely the case now, that this interior designer has transformed what he calls " a white box with no rooms" in Santa Monica, California into a brilliant loft, which showcases a perfect blend of Hollywood regency and beach house rustic.

Happy Fur Day

(Dottie, our mini-dachshund)

Pets...what can you say. We love them, even though they chew on everything, roll around in the yard and then come in smelling like a litter box, decide when company's over is the perfect time to show off their strangest behavior....despite all of this you just can't stay mad for long. So today I thought I'd pay a tribute to our furry family members with pet portraits that really make a room!

(A portrait of Liberace in owner's Simon Doonan and Jonathan Adler's home, from Rooms to Inspire book)

(Portrait by Martha Szabo, featured in Domino/Oct. 2005)
