Rustic Glamour

I want you to channel that rustic side of for a moment...we all have one even if we weren't born in the wilderness and raised by wolves. Now, this side of me, I feel is best mixed with a bit of glamour. What better way to bring that out then with using, what I think it may be the next "coral" or "antlers" trend...horns! Take the Kelly Wearstler design below (you can put any adjective in front of glamour and I still think of her)...and the others, showing how rustic meets glamour in the best way possible.

(Kelly Wearstler, via Domicilium Decoratus)

(Miles Redd, via Rooms to Inspire book)

(Fashion Designer Jenni Kayne, featured in Domino/Dec./Jan. '07)

(Image via Leah at morewaystowastetime blog, click here to see her post on horns)

Here are some other horn finds I thought I'd share with you...

(Italian Horn Lamp from Plantation, $1,695.00)

(Horn Sconces from eccola on 1st dibs)

(Barrel Chair with horn legs from Woodson & Rummerfield on 1st dibs)

(Buffalo horns from Z Gallerie, only $39)

So, what do you think...are horns the next big thing? Have you been seeing them around much more these days?

ok ... i thought i would have loved the idea of using horns as decor since i'm all about "natural" elements of design but for some reason they don't tickle my fancy.

although i can appreciate them, especially in the domino mag image!

Hey Kate,

I agree -- horns are definitely having a moment.

A bunch more horn decor here:

All the best,

Wow - Horns - Who knew? Do I like it or do I hate it? I think I'll have to mull it over for awhile. They bring back memories of a pair of Texas longhorns a rhinestone cowboy guy had strapped to the front of his white Cadillac Eldorado convertible that he drove all over town when I was a kid. He had a horn that played The Yellow Rose of Texas. ( Yes it was a freak show but I grew up in Las Vegas!)

Get out of my head! I saw this last night: http://hamptonsantiquegalleriesiillc.1stdibs.com/itemdetails.php?id=129012 and was struck by the very same thing: Horns have been creeping in everywhere - maybe the new coral?

Yes, I think I have been seeing more of this around lately...great post. I think very few people other than Kelly Wearstler could get away with that table in her dressing room...

Tag Kate, you're it! As a lead up to Blog Action Day, bloggers are posting what they are doing to introduce environmental sustainability into their own
daily life.

Here is my response:

Now I'm challenging you to do the same.

Pass it on...
Cheers!

Hmmm...Horns? I might go for them if they are fake and not off the head of some poor animal...but then...a fake looks like a fake..

Safer choice - I think I will give horns a miss :-D
[I recall when I had developed a unhealthy fascniation with these african drums with soft furry animal hide on it..am so glad I got over that one! ;-)]

Thanks Jenn, love the honesty. I was the same way, but then they grew on me more and now I went out and bought a few for decor.

Yes, I've been noticing a horn here and there. I'm not all that fond of them. I'm more of an antler kind of gal but I can appreciate them.

I do like the Italian horn nesting tables you've posted in your daily finds though.

Think I'm undecided about horns--I like them as decorative dishware (think I may have even done a post about the dishware), but I'm not crazy about that table in the Kelly Wearstler room. I do, however, really like the Miles Redd Room . . .

I love horns - so much more than antlers. There's a jazzy Baker low table/stool - Tusk Table, I think - that is on my wish list.

I welcome the trend. Anything that is natural is okay in my book. Bring it on.

Interesting, and even though I love Texas and am not opposed to hunting, I've made the decision to exclude animal remains from decor - I've just seen it overdone so much. They are pretty though..... maybe at a ranch house!

Ok, just before this post you have a post about the environment and then you have a post of horns of who knows what variety of animals. I say NO! No to horns. Leave animals alone. Otherwise, i really enjoy your blog.
