Flea Market Fab...

In the age of Ebay, it's any wonder people leave the house to actually shop...let alone, walk for hours and hours rummaging through other people's junk in hopes to find that diamond in the rough (for a good price too).

But, for artist John Derian, visiting flea markets is a childhood pastime, and might I add has truly paid off in his cozy New York apartment featured in Elle Decor/March 2006. You won't find a single designer object here...yup, no Pottery Barn either...but each piece, including the stove is unique, creating a lovely blend of flea market finds.

Whether you want to outfit your entire house in unique pieces or just find a few to add to the mix already, here's a list of some great places (in Nor. Cal.) to check out next time you feel like hunting for furniture (Okay, I know it's not exactly the best Flea Market weather...but maybe that means less people and better chances for you...)

**Alameda Antique Faire, next show on Dec. 2nd**

*Alemany Flea Market, year round on Weds/Sun.*

*Berkeley Flea Market, year round on Sat/Sun.*

*Sacramento Antique Fair, 2nd Sun of every month*

OH FANTASTIC POST!!! I'm a massive John Derian fan, and it's always such fun to see where the fabulous and talented hang their hat! :)

Thanks for the great post!

I remember this piece. I really liked it for its individuality. Everyone is in such a hurry to finish their houses - it always works so much better if things are allowed to evolve.

Damn if I didn't just fall head-over-heels in love with his two stores in the Lower East Side in NYC. It was one of the first things I blogged about. Soooo much fun!

Beautiful apartment!!

The flea market guide you refere to above has a lot of outdated information. I started my site Here Be Old Things in part to correct all the outdated info about New York City fleas, and you can find a correct list here.

If you traveling to NYC, there's a listing of auctions houses, weekly events, etc.
