Does this make me look fat?!?!

(Kenneth Alpert, featured in Interior Design, Feb. '03)

I know you've heard people say that horizontal stripes aren't that flattering to wear...but on your walls, it's perfectly okay...in fact, brilliant! To continue a black and white kick I've been on since last week, I thought I'd share of my favorite scenarios of where black and white stripes look oh so good together. Hope you enjoy!!! **Sorry if these images combined give you vertigo :)**

I adore, adore that Anne Coyle hallway and have ever since I saw it. The wainscoting below the horizontal stripes, coupled with the traditional furnishings, keep it from feeling too overwhelming or mod-optical-illusion-y.

I love the Anne Coyle picture too - mosques in Marrakech where I live seem to feature horizontal stripes of about that width on their back walls (visible when you're wandering in the derbs, looking for your house). Not black and while, alas, just two tones of the pinky orange of most of Marrakech, but still - it was the first thing that sprang to mind when I saw the picture and I thought I would share! I always thought it was a particularly chic design for the mosques to latch onto...

My bathroom is vertical black and white stripes. If you stare long enough you get a little dizzy, but I do love them.

Thanks for the comment Sarah and for stopping by my blog :) I know exactly what you're talking about with the stripes on mosques in the middle east, I lived in UAE for a while and remember the arch/design so well, only wish I had photos :(

I think stripes add a lot of energy to spaces. I like what
Mary McDonald has done to her office, but she should have left the backsplash off of that countertop....sorry Mary! Good post.
