What do you put at the end of a bed...if anything?!?! If you've got the space, it's sometimes ideal to place something there...like an antique settee seen above...

Or a desk even, it could be draped with fabric like above or even just a great hand-carved piece...

Maybe a comfy bench would work with some great accent pillows...

Just a chair and side table will do too...this is probably what I will end up doing at my own home...

But then I do have a mini-dachshund that would love her own lil set of steps up on to the bed...which is a great idea for small dog owners...
The options are endless, here are just a few. I'm curious, what's at your end of the bed?

When I first got a down comforter I was obsessed with keeping people from sitting on it and crushing the loft of the down. A bench would have been great for this purpose, but there wasn't room. If I had an embroidered bedspread or something, though, I would insist on a bench for additional seating.
Wow Kate you picked the best options. All such great examples. I think a long bench is really practical for books, putting on tall boots or for conversation. But a sofa or loveseat can be such a luxury.
I would opt for a bench, but a vintage one.
I have a loveseat, which is inevitably always covered in yesterday's clothes...but it still looks good (well after the maid has been anyway!)
love them all! i love the ruthie sommers room with the comfy bench- my dream room, hands-down.
great, fun blog!
We have a wenge wood bench covered in chocolate brown mohair. The dogs use it as a launching pad to get on the bed. So much for glamour.
you're right how do you choose, I love all of these options.
I love all of the choices you posted, they're great, hard to choose.
Normally I would say bench, but after seeing your choices I like them all! Mamacita and I must have been separated at birth- that sounds like me worrying about the down comforter!
i'll take them all .....

The Ruthie Sommers is my favorite. I love that entire room. I wish I had your problem, but have no room at the foot of my bed for such.
You pulled together such a great mix in this group. I really like the idea of a desk at the foot of a bed - that could work for me. At the foot of our bed? The floor.
I love them all. Sadly, I have opted for a bench with storage inside which is not extremely beautiful but is certainly extremely practical.
Can't wait to read what you decide upon.
I would pu a lovely feminine desk so when my man would be in the bed sleeping I would look at him and write poesy
Carpet at the moment...but that can be changed. Plenty of inspiration in this post! Thank you!
I love all of your choices. I am so embarrassed to admit that I have a humongous black wire dog kennel at the end of my bed. Horrified. My bedroom is like the step-child of the whole house. The boys rooms are childhood perfection and mine is a hodge podge with a kennel in it. Ick. Maybe this year.
We have an upholstered ottoman, purchased specifically for our tiny dog to get up on the bed, but provides additional storage as well.
Just found your blog! Love it!
Hi, you've been tagged. Go to my site for the rules.
if I had the space, a settee is perfect for me. Or a low chaise would do. I would want something dramatic that begged to be used. Nothing stiff, nothing fussy. Nothing that needed to be straightened after I sat down in it.
Okay. Now you've done it. I'm back to thinking of my dream home :) Now I need even more room at the foot of the bed ;)
I love this post! So many beautiful pictures. I have a strong personal preference for a bench or a settee at the end of the bed. I am not a fan of a loveseat, but I think it really depends on the size of the room and how you use what is at the end of the bed. I still have too many pillows (I have put my bedroom project on the back burner, and am focusing on my front hall), so a bench is a necessity!
I just wanted to say that I wish I had time to respond to each one of your comments...but, time these days is limited. Thanks to all of you for responding to this post, I enjoyed each one of the comments!!!
I can't pick just one! but in general, I like a bench at the end of the bed, unless there's room for a love seat, settee type thing - then you can have a seating group in front of the bed with two chairs adn the settee. I like tht a lot, if there is the room.!! Love these pictures.
I just this problem for the guest house. I want every room to be different and so we will see what I come up with. I think it could be nice to have low lacquered shelves at the end or a table.
at the moment...... i have boxes in the processes of being packed at the end of my bed... but eventually (when we've moved) i hope to find a Chaise Longue to put at the end of my four poster... i'm a real Drama Queen
